Badazz Mofo editor in chief David Walker is back with this 20 minute short that he wrote, produced and directed and does a terrific job. My only real complaint is that it could have easily been fleshed out into a feature. The movie stars (and is co-produced by) Ken Foree as a local charity Santa who has helped gather a warehouse full of toys for the kids in the poor neighborhood. But on Christmas eve a group of thugs knock him out and rob the place. The cops are the usual sorry sons of bitches, even after the realize that other charities are being robbed of their toys too. So its up to our Black Santa to take to the streets and put foot to ass to make sure the kids have Christmas this year. What's so good about this is that Walker manages to weld the oldschool feel of a 70's exploitation movie to the oldschool feel of a down home Christmas special and make them somehow fit together successfully. While at times played for laughs, he keeps the core of the movie played straight, which is the main character's care and love for the kids in the ghetto. All he wants is for the kids to have a decent holiday and more importantly not lose their image of Santa. So if he has to take up a shotgun and fuck a lot of people up to do it, then so be it. the movie is slickly made with excellent photography and editing, with a great soundtrack and good acting to boot. this is a winner all the way around.
